I went to and/or called 5 places before finding Solar Eclipse sunglasses 🕶️. We almost drove to meet my momma so she could give us some BUT thankfully @tritoncollege’s @cernanspacecenter had PLENTY so we were able to grab ours there! We decided to make it a homeschool field trip as it turns out they had several educational activities going on to commemorate the eclipse! 🌞🌚 In our area of Illinois, totality wasn’t very dark. It got dim and I could definitely tell that the temperature dropped. It was a fun experience and Kai really enjoyed it, I’m glad we found those glasses!! 🙌🏽 Did you watch the eclipse yesterday? #solareclipse2024 #totaleclipse2024

A Saturday well spent! Time with family >. It was good to get up, out and moving. Making memories was the cherry on top 🍒. My sister Ashieka, @i_train_with_superheroes, was a great guide! We hit up #BullfrogLake, @fpdcc, for today’s trails. Can’t wait to do it again! Who’s coming next?!

I saw a quote, not long ago, that effectively said

I saw a quote, not long ago, that effectively said, “our job as parents is to pull our children into our calm not be pulled into their chaos.” It reminded me of a book Kai has called “You Are My I Love You.” One of my favorite lines is “I am your parent, you are my child. I am your quiet place, you are my wild.” Kai has been an inquisitive, observant, passionate and independent thinker for her whole life. Obviously, that’s looked different as she’s grown through various stages/ages. These days, there’s definitely some “pushback” sprinkled in (why do I have to do this work? Can’t I finish this later? No one else has to do xyz and so on); which has the potential to be triggering but I always try and identify where it’s coming from and get to the root. Now, I can’t say I always get it right but I can say with certainty that when I stay centered and calm that outcomes are always better. I’ve never regretted remaining calm but have definitely wished I’d maintained my composure in certain instances, which it’s a teachable moment in and of itself. What I always keep top of mind is that children are still developing and learning the world around them. Expecting them to respond with the maturity or understanding of an adult isn’t reasonable and let’s face it, some adults don’t even function like adults 🥴. If we as parents don’t instill in our children the capacity to remain calm and manage uncomfortable feelings how and when will they learn? If we only “tolerate” pleasant emotions (happiness, joy, excitement) from our children but react negatively when they are upset, how will they learn to manage sadness, grief and anger? I found these memes to be great reminders and wanted to share. Save for later or share with a parent who could use some tips. Motherhood has been one of my greatest teachers, how about you? #hrbpartner I remember my dad teaching my sisters and I “Take me out to the ball game” as a kid. We’d sing at the top of our lungs in the back seat of the car, “buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack…” I remember the first White Sox game we went to, I was maybe 8, same age as Kai. So, it was incredibly special to take Kai to her first ever @WhiteSox game in partnership with our friends at @hrblock! Now, I don’t know about you, but I literally just submitted my documents for tax prep two days ago 🥴 and we all know that Tax Day is April 15. I can’t think of a single reason why YOU shouldn

I can’t think of a single reason why YOU shouldn’t take a solo trip BUT I thought of every reason not to take time for myself, despite knowing how essential it was. I’m so used to doing it all that sometimes the path of least resistance IS to just keep going 🥴. And I know all the “cliché” terms - “you can’t pour from an empty cup”or “your children need the best version of you” - and I truly align with them. However, just because I *know* better but doesn’t mean I always *do* better. 🫠 So, I don’t know who this is for, but I encourage you to truly make time for things that matter to your heart. Your family, children, dog, bird, plants, job and any other reason you can think of WILL be OK. Give yourself permission to prioritize yourself. ❤️😘 Tag a friend who needs to hear this or save for later when you need a reminder. 🎥 @ajahlexiproductions

This is your sign to start your locs! My sister Ashieka lovingly started them for me in August 2020. 🥰. We started with interlocking and i remember her saying “Ki these are gonna be really cute.” I transitioned to #palmrolling just under a year later. I started with about 96 and now have around 99 as I was able to add a few around my temples as time went on. This is the best hair decision I’ve ever made! It’s low maintenance and versatile, I love it here. Thanks to @locdinheaven for getting Kai and I together today! 😍🙌🏽 Also, gotta send love to my girl @candytreats who kept my hair together for almost two years! 🥰
